When the manufacture of the handle incorporates a smaller diameter pole inside that extends outwards to increase the length of the handle. Better models have a locking system to lock the 2nd pole into place.

Advantages: Easier to store and transport. More versatility.

Disadvantages: Due to smaller diameter material on extending sections can weaken strength.

Tip: Never extend more than 75% if lifting heavy objects.
