Cleaning your pond out every month is not really necessary , but giving your filter a 'deep' clean is advisable.
Every month get into a routine of cleaning the filter sponges and the pump pre filter.
Tip: Always use the pond water to clean filter brushes or matting as this saves the bacteria colonizing the surfaces.
Using tapwater kills the helpful bacteria that breakdown ammonia and nitrites(NO2) that build up in the pond
Use a test kit and check the PH of the pond. This should be around 7.1 to 8.1 , anything out of this range may require attention.
Trim plants and take any debris out of the pond and add water if required.
Tip:Use a dechlorinator when adding tapwater to the pond.
